Karen Ruet

Karen Ruet is a photographer who resides in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Her roots reach deep in her home province. Trained in an old-school darkroom at the age of 17, she developed a passion for black and white photography that carried into her formal training. While studying Karen fell in love with experimental and alternative processes, particularly Polaroid transfers, and multiple exposures. She is actively creating cyanotypes and in early July learned the wet-plate collodion process to create tintypes. She expresses herself through subjects she finds poetic and elegant, telling stories through her environment and with people at home or away. She is particularly enamoured with emotion and the way photography can express emotion. Karen teaches photography at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design and encourages her students to slow down in moments when they are with their cameras and really see.
