Born in the mid seventies, I was raised in a time of fleeting social freedoms; where political correctness was not considered a sociologic prowess, and the youth were seemingly care free. I struggle now with my conservative nature: trying to leave my creativity uninhibited, and cast off the shackles of judgement. My eyes were first opened to my creativity suppression when I first set foot in the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design on August 24th 1998 (which was, ironically, my birthday). I was introduced to a whole new set of rules, most of which I resisted for the better part of my first year. While attending the college I worked as a freelance photographer at the Daily Gleaner where I was exposed to the commercial side of photography. I graduated from NBCCD in 2001, and have since conquered one of lifes greatest battles; this battle has left me with new perspectives on life which I hope to include in my future photographic endeavors. |
